Bethesda Game Studios has released the second part of its next-gen update for Fallout 4.
The update, which was announced via X on 13th May, includes the addition of much-requested features that provide players with greater control over the game’s graphics and display settings.
Essentially, players can now select a frame rate to target regardless of the display mode being used. This means Xbox Series X|S and PS5 users are now able to play Fallout 4 in “Visuals” mode while targeting 60 FPS.
The new controls come in the form of two toggles added to game’s settings in the main menu. The first toggle is “Frame Rate Target”, which offers 30, 40, and 60 FPS options. The second is “Prioritize”, where players can choose between “Visuals” and “Performance” mode. You can check out these changes in the screenshot below:
Bethesda has explained that “your display must be able to support 120hz” if you wish to play Fallout 4 at 40 FPS.
Notably, the company also said that it “highly [recommends] you run with the default settings” and that anyone wanting to target 60 FPS should use Performance mode.
However, having tested Fallout 4 on PS5 in Visuals mode targeting 60 FPS earlier today, I can say that things seem to be running just fine. Bethesda has explained that “Both modes may adjust internal resolution dynamically when scenes or action get heavier.”
