With each new Call of Duty season, players have lots of fresh content to look forward to. This includes brand new multiplayer maps. And the upcoming third season of Modern Warfare II is no exception. Activision has confirmed new MW2 season 3 maps that fans can enjoy when the latest seasonal update arrives on 12 April.

The Modern Warfare II map pool is something of a mixed bag. While it’s far from the worst CoD multiplayer offering of all time, it certainly leaves a lot to be desired.

Highlights include Mercado Las Almas, Zarqwa Hydroelectric, Farm 18, and Crown Raceway. Meanwhile, maps like El Asilo, Breenbergh Hotel, and the truly awful Santa Seña Border Crossing undoubtedly spoil the otherwise promising map selection.

However, with new maps coming in Season 3, will the MW2 multiplayer offering improve? Here’s what Activision has planned for the game’s third season…

What are the new MW2 Season 3 multiplayer maps?

Season 3 will introduce five new maps – three are core maps and two are battle maps. They are:

  • Pelayo’s Lighthouse (core map, available at launch)
  • Black Gold (core map, available at launch)
  • Alboran Hatchery (core map, available in-season)
  • Rohan Oil (battle map, available at launch)
  • Sattiq Cave Complex (battle map, available at launch)

The new maps were announced in an official Call of Duty blog.

Pelayo’s Lighthouse

Pelayo’s Lighthouse is a small, dark island map featuring a lighthouse and heavy rain.

Black Gold

The Black Gold map introduces night operations to MW2. It’s reportedly based on Rohan Oil, a large section of Al Mazrah that Warzone and DMZ players will be familiar with.

Alboran Hatchery

No details (other than a single promotional image which you can see below) have been released about the Alboran Hatchery core map, however Activision has said it will arrive midseason.

Sattiq Cave Complex (MW2 Season 3 multiplayer map)

Sattiq Cave Complex is another area of Al Mazrah that Warzone and DMZ players will recognise. It is based on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) map Afghan and features a large crashed plane.

Rohan Oil (MW2 Season 3 multiplayer map)

This new battle map is based on – you guessed it – the Rohan Oil section of Al Mazrah and expands beyond the Black Gold core map. However, unlike Black Gold, it is set during the daytime.

What is a Core Map?

A Core Map is a standard Call of Duty multiplayer map for 6v6 game modes.

What is a Battle Map?

A Battle Map is a map designed for the large Ground War and Invasion multiplayer game modes.
