MW3 Zombies meta guns: Best weapons to use (January 2023)

We are now mid-way through Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Warzone. Many players are now fully focussed on meta weapons. Meta stands for most effective tactics available. Therefore, if a weapon is a classed as “meta” by players, that means it is considered among the best and most viable. While meta choices are most relevant in competitive game modes, they can also be a factor in PvE experiences such as MW3 Zombies. With that being said, does Zombies in MW3 have any meta guns and which weapons are best?

As mentioned, metas aren’t as big of a factor in Zombies. You can still be highly successful in the mode without using the “best” guns. But there are definitely certain weapons you should consider using if you want to make your time in Zombies easier.

Similarly, Zombies is great for levelling up weapons for use in multiplayer and Warzone. So, you should prioritise using guns that will be beneficial in game modes outside of Zombies, just so you can get all of their attachments quickly and easily.

Meta guns in MW3 Zombies, explained

The focus of the Zombies mode in MW3 is the completion of contracts and missions to acquire better loot. This usually involves fighting large hordes of the undead and powerful special zombies (including Mimics, Disciples, and Manglers).

That means any weapons with strong damage, high fire rate, and large magazine capacity are the most viable. As such, players will benefit the most from using assault rifles and LMGs. SMGs are also good, but their usefulness diminishes at range.

In our view, magazine size can be the real difference maker. If you’re using a large magazine (such as the Pulemyot 762’s 200 Round Belt), you will be able to fire continuously for long periods without reloading. This should help avoid frequent breaks to reload and allow you to fend off huge swathes of zombies at once without being overwhelmed.

Better still, the benefits of large magazines only increase when you Pack-a-Punch weapons. For example, the Bruen Mk9’s 200 Round Belt Mag will hold an incredible 400 rounds when Pack-a-Punched to level II. Likewise, players should always make Pack-a-Punching weapons their absolute top priority. Without doing this, the vast majority of weapons will be useless outside the low-threat zone and you will struggle to survive. Because of this, Pack-a-Punching should be considered a meta strategy.

It’s also worth noting that snipers and, to a lesser extent, shotguns are largely pointless in Zombies. Their slow rate of fire and reduced magazine size are far from ideal when battling crowds of brain-hungry undead. It’s best to stick to assault rifles and LMGs where possible.

MW3 Zombies meta guns and best builds

MW3 Zombies allows players to create “insured” weapons. These weapons will remain in your inventory even if you die, however they will enter a cooldown phase. Once their cooldown has finished, you will be able to use them again.

So, it’s well worth spending some time kitting out a strong insured weapon in MW3 Zombies and using the best attachments for it. You can check out some of our suggestions below:

Best tactical and lethal equipment in Zombies

MW3 Zombies features the same selection of tactical and lethal equipment as multiplayer and Warzone. However, there are some standout favourites here that you should be using.

Tactical – Decoy Grenade

Lethal – Thermite, Semtex or Molotov

The Decoy Grenade is incredibly useful for distracting large groups of zombies and getting them away from you. This is particularly handy if you are being swarmed and at risk of being downed.

Best field upgrade in MW3 Zombies

Two field upgrades stand above the rest in Zombies. They are Healing Aura and Aether Shroud. Zombies is known for its intense battles and challenging clutch scenarios, and this is where either of these field upgrades can be very useful.

If the rest of your squad are downed, you can use Healing Aura to instantly revive them. Similarly, Aether Shroud will make you invisible to zombies. This will allow you to escape if you are surrounded and/or revive a downed teammate without being detected.
