As part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Warzone Season 1 (dubbed “Warzone 3.0” by players), a whole host of new perks were added to the popular battle royale game. This included a brand new perk in Warzone called Mountaineer. Its official in-game description simply states that it “Reduces fall damage”.

As any CoD fan knows, there is a huge amount of constant discussion about the best perks to use. Of course, selecting the right perks can be a massive difference maker.

The correct combination can help you survive and thrive during tough engagements in Warzone. Therefore, many players may have overlooked Mountaineer. After all, it doesn’t sound like anything particularly remarkable. But it’s actually a great perk that could be the slot 1 meta.

While I understand that’s a big claim to make, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that Mountaineer is the best Warzone perk for slot 1 right now.

What does the Mountaineer perk do in Warzone?

According to popular Call of Duty YouTuber JGOD, Mountaineer doubles the amount of fall damage you can sustain before it becomes lethal.

JGOD explained in a recent video that without Mountaineer, any fall from 13.5 metres or higher will result in instant death. With Mountaineer active, you can survive falls of up to 27 metres. JGOD described it as an “A-tier” perk.

Is Mountaineer worth using?

With the fall damage data explained, the benefits of using Mountaineer should be clear to any CoD player. Perhaps best of all, it enables you to drop from buildings to pursue enemies without dying or taking too much damage. This is an immense advantage and something that enemy players won’t expect.

It also significantly reduces the need to parachute. This means you won’t need to spend as much time in the air, which often leaves you vulnerable to enemy gunfire.

By extension, Mountaineer should allow you to reach the ground before your opponents. This will provide you with an opening to shoot them out of the sky while they parachute in.

In summary, we highly recommend that you use Mountaineer as a slot 1 perk in Warzone. As more people realise just how much it reduces fall damage, it is likely that Mountaineer’s popularity will significantly increase. Therefore, to avoid putting yourself at a disadvantage, it’s well worth using it.
