This Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 guide explains how to get the SOCOM suppressor in MGS1.

With the release of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, long-time fans of the series will be infiltrating Shadow Moses Island all over again.

While minimal changes have been made to 1998’s Metal Gear Solid as part of the Master Collection, players may still struggle at certain points in the game as it has been such a long time. While I consider myself something of a Metal Gear aficionado, there were still some things I couldn’t quite remember.

As Metal Gear Solid is a stealth game, the primary focus is on not getting caught. Unfortunately, the primary weapon in MGS is the SOCOM which alerts guards when fired. The only way to get around this is by equipping it with a suppressor.

But I couldn’t remember where it was and it took me a good bit of time to find it. And I can imagine other players will be in the same boat. So, if you want to find it, allow me to explain where to go to your hands on the suppressor.

How to get the SOCOM suppressor in Metal Gear Solid

To get the SOCOM suppressor in Metal Gear Solid, go to the Tank Hanger. Come out of the elevator and go right. Continue until you reach a large door and unlock it with your Level 1 keycard. Take out the sleeping guard inside. The suppressor is in the corner at the far end of the room.

Unlock the door to this room.

Once you have acquired the suppressor, you will be able to shoot guards without immediately alerting other patrolling soldiers.

This makes the suppressor one of the most essential pieces of equipment in the game as it can help avoid alerts in most situations.

Unfortunately, the SOCOM is the only weapon in the game that can be equipped with a suppressor, so no other guns can be used for stealthy kills.
