This Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection guide explains how to get the FAMAS in MGS1.

The wait for the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection is over and fans are getting stuck into these classic stealth action games. For most players, the first game on the list will be 1998’s Metal Gear Solid.

The version included in the Master Collection is near-identical to the one originally released on the PS1. But that doesn’t mean fans will have an easy time getting back into the swing of things. It came out a long time ago and it’s reasonable that you might have forgotten what to do in certain parts of the game. I know I did.

MGS1 features a small pool of weapons to collect. In addition to the SOCOM handgun, players can also get their hands on the FAMAS assault rifle. This makes combat engagements dramatically easier. But to get it, you need to know where to look.

How to get the FAMAS in Metal Gear Solid (Master Collection)

This is how to get the FAMAS in Metal Gear Solid:

After facing Revolver Ocelot, go into the room in the bottom right corner of the Armory. It is a Level 2 door. Inside you will see some red lines along the floor and up the walls and some items on the other side.

Equip Cigs to reveal the lasers.

Equip the Cigs. This will reveal a laser trap to you. Crawl underneath the lasers to get the FAMAS and some ammo.

Collect the FAMAS by crawling under the lasers.

The FAMAS has two modes of fire. Tapping Square will fire single shots. Hold Square to fire the FAMAS in full-auto mode.

As mentioned, it is one of the most useful weapons in the game. However, you should use it with caution. Shooting the FAMAS will usually trigger an alert and there is no way to silence it, unlike the SOCOM.
