This Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection guide explains how to get the USP in MGS2.
With the much-anticipated release of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection, fans are diving back into MGS2. The prophetic and critically-acclaimed stealth game is split into two parts – Tanker and Plant.
During the Tanker chapter, you play as Solid Snake. He has infiltrated a tanker on the Hudson River to investigate a new version of Metal Gear.
Armed with only an M9 tranquilliser gun, Snake is heavily restricted when it comes to combat. But as long-time fans will remember, there is a firearm available in this chapter of the game. What you may not remember is how to get it. To make matters worse, you also need it to disable Semtex lasers in the ship’s Engine Room.
The gun is called the USP and ammo for it can be found throughout the tanker. So, how do you get it?
How to get the USP in Metal Gear Solid 2
To get the USP, you must find and defeat Olga Gurlukovich.
Olga is the first boss in MGS2. To find Olga from the Semtex lasers in the Engine Room, head through the door repaired by the guard.
From the Crew’s Lounge, go up the central stairs and through the right-hand side door into Deck-B Crew’s Quarters. Go left out of the door and straight down the corridor. Turn left, take out the guard and continue ahead turning left and then straight ahead down another corridor.
Head up the stairs onto Deck-C. You will encounter a security camera. Use a chaff grenade or shimmy along the wall to avoid detection. Go up another set of stairs into Deck-D Crew’s Quarters. There are guards patrolling here and a CCTV camera in the main cafeteria.
Go left into the cafeteria and tranquillise the guard. Use a chaff grenade to disable the CCTV camera but time this with when the second guard is on the other side of the corridor through the door. By doing this, you can quickly run through and take him out.
Go up the stairs to the Bridge and a cutscene will play. Going outside will begin the fight with Olga. After a brief and relatively straightforward fight, the USP will be yours.
