The official Tekken 8 gameplay trailer for the beloved character Kuma has been released by Bandai Namco. Dubbed “Master of Salmon”, Kuma is shown facing off with old nemesis Paul Phoenix and long-time love interest Panda.

Promising that “He’s going snap you like a twig with his bear hands”, the official Tekken X account shared the trailer on 27 December. It was immediately met with glee from fans (as well as plenty of bear-related puns).

In the trailer, the loveable (albeit deadly) bear sports a red bandana and the attire of his master Heihachi Mishima. He also shows up with a large salmon which he launches at the camera. Many of his best-known moves make an appearance during the clips of his fight with Paul in a coliseum.

While he looks as hard-hitting as ever, Kuma still has a soft spot for Panda in Tekken 8. As fans will know, Panda has repeatedly rejected Kuma’s romantic overtures over the course of previous games – and she hasn’t changed her mind in the latest instalment.

Kuma is seen proposing to Panda, asking her “Panda, will you marry me?”. He gets down on one knee and offers her a flapping salmon (presumably in place of an engagement ring) which she immediately slaps out of his paws.

This angers Kuma and a fight ensues where he is shown delivering a special attack involving the salmon. Using it as a bat, he hits Panda and sends her into the air. The salmon then transforms into a rocket, flies towards Panda and detonates.

After the fight is over, Kuma dances happily and declares “Yay, I’m getting married at last!”.
