Jon Moxley is no stranger to hardcore wrestling and deathmatches. While this information won’t come as a surprise to anyone well acquainted with his time in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), he certainly toned things down during his WWE run.
Naturally, Moxley has been making up for this since he left the company. And his most brutal spot yet came on 4 July 2023 in the form of skewers to the head. Yes, you read that right.
In the main event of NJPW Independence Day night 1, the former Dean Ambrose teamed with Homicide to take on El Desperado and deathmatch legend Jun Kasai in an Exciting Encounter Doomsday No Disqualification match.
Kasai is renowned for his extreme style of hardcore wrestling. Over the years, he has sustained countless scars all over his body during violent and bloody matches. His notorious deathmatches have included objects such as light tubes, razor blades, barbed wire, gusset plates, and much more.
An assortment of weapons were prevalent throughout the match at NJPW Independence Day (including forks and knives). But Kasai implanting wooden skewers into the head of Jon Moxley was the moment that everyone has been talking about.
With Moxley sat on the mat, El Desperado held him down. Kasai then took out a handful of wooden skewers and proceeded to pound them into Jon Moxley’s head.
A shocked Moxley quickly escaped and rolled out of the ring in pain from the violent spot. Kasai and Desperado would ultimately go on to win the match.
While that may sound like more than enough carnage for one show, Moxley and El Desperado headlined NJPW Independence Day night 2 in a Final Death match.
This time, both Desperado and Jon Moxley had skewers in hand. They rammed them into each other’s heads, with Moxley ultimately bearing the brunt of the skewers once again.
