John Cena is a 16-time WWE World Champion and Hollywood mega-star; however, his unique approach to social media has had fans baffled – until now.

Cena, who has more than 20 million followers on Instagram, exclusively posts seemingly random, caption-less images to the photo sharing platform.

Sometimes, the meaning behind an image is more obvious than others. For example, on 26 November 2023, Cena posted an image of CM Punk after his return at WWE’s Survivor Series event.

Other times, things aren’t as clear cut. Just one day earlier, on 25 November, the WWE mainstay shared a still from Netflix‘s Leo, an animated Adam Sandler movie about a talking reptile. Why? Well, we don’t know. “Bro be posting the most random sh** ever,” reads the top comment.

Appearing on fellow WWE wrestler, boxer and YouTube star Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, Cena was asked about the meaning behind his confusing Instagram posts – and he finally shed some light on things.

“You are one of the most famous people on the planet, and your Instagram is one of the most perplexing places that I’ve ever seen,” said Paul. “What do you mean?” Cena replied.

Co-host Mike Majlak then asked Cena about an image he shared showing comedian Dave Chapelle dressed as Prince.

“I mean… What does the bio say?” Cena asked, rhetorically.

“Welcome to my Instagram. These images will be posted without explanation, for your interpretation. Enjoy,” stated Paul, reading off of Cena’s bio.

“I never want to take away anyone’s interpretation of the image,” Cena explained.

Mike then asked Cena why he posted a random picture of a traffic jam. Cena said it was because he was stuck in traffic.

“I hate doing this because I want people to be able to take away what they want… Nowadays, everything is presented and thoroughly explained, I want people to be able to think for themselves.”

“I’ve dropped some serious clues and spoilers on there… but if you’re not looking for it, you don’t know. And I don’t care if you know, because that’s not the point. The point is, if you come to there as a forum, you can check out the images, you can get a look into my life, or maybe you can get a look into your own life, maybe you see something in that traffic jam that I don’t,” Cena explained. “And then there’s Stone Cold Friday.”

So, there you have it. The mystery behind John Cena’s cryptic Instagram posts is that he wants his followers to interpret the meaning behind the posts, whether they’re of a wrestler from WWE’s rival wrestling promotion, AEW, a photoshopped image of Stone Cold Steve Austin, or a picture of Britney Spears.
