Call of Duty: Warzone is a mega-hit for Activision. There’s no denying that. Call of Duty shot to global video game domination after the release of 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. And the series saw great success for many years. But it’s safe to say interest was waning among gamers following the release of 2018’s Black Ops 4. After years of rinse-and-repeat games and aggressive monetisation, fans were growing tired of the franchise. Then Infinity Ward swept in and breathed new life into CoD with Modern Warfare 2019 – a reboot of that sub-series. Warzone launched off the back of Modern Warfare and rode the wave of lockdown-induced boredom. It has since gone on to achieve over 100 million active players across multiple platforms. But can users on different platforms enjoy Warzone together? Is Warzone cross platform? Keep reading to find out…

What is Warzone?

Warzone (or Call of Duty: Warzone) is a free-to-play battle royale spin-off of the immensely popular Call of Duty video game series. It was released on 10th March 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Initially, Warzone was based on Modern Warfare (2019). It featured all the weapons, operators, and cosmetics from that game, and shared its engine (IW 8.0). However, Warzone has changed with the release of subsequent main instalments – Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard – and introduced various elements from those titles.

Its primary game mode is Battle Royale, which features 150 players. Players can enter games on their own (Solos), or in a squad (Duos, Trios, or Quads). The main objective is to survive until the very end by defeating other players as you encounter them. Players can use in-game currency (cash) to purchase useful items from Buy Stations – including armour plates, killstreaks, gas masks, loadout drop markers, and more. Poisonous gas surrounds the map and moves closer in as each game progresses. This forces players into closer proximity until only one squad remains. Loadout drop markers are used to access custom classes which contain guns and perks.

Plunder mode was initially included in Warzone but has been removed and added back in numerous times. Plunder focuses more heavily on cash-based objectives. It pits squads against each other in a race to earn the most money as quickly as possible. Both Battle Royale and Plunder modes take place on Warzone‘s main maps. They are Verdansk (later redesigned and renamed to Verdansk ’84 with the release of Black Ops Cold War) and Caldera (released in December 2021, replacing Verdansk). Warzone also features Resurgence mode. It’s similar to Battle Royale but players respawn after dying following a brief waiting period as long as other squad members are still alive. Resurgence takes place primarily on the smaller Rebirth Island map and new Fortune’s Keep map.

Is Warzone Cross Platform

Is Warzone cross platform? Yes – Warzone is cross platform. That means you can play Warzone with anyone regardless of the platform they use. Whether you’re on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, everyone can play together. Warzone also includes cross-progression. So all your in-game progress, weapons, unlockables, and more will carry across to other platforms should you ever switch. To enable cross platform support, Activision introduced Activision/Call of Duty accounts which your progress is tied to.

Cross platform play – otherwise known as Crossplay – is turned on by default in Warzone. Every game will feature players on other platforms. However, you can disable it to ensure you only play with people that are on the same platform. To do this, simply go to the Options menu and look for the option to disable Crossplay.
