Saints Row fans are eagerly awaiting the release of 2022’s upcoming reboot. It’s right around the corner. And many are wondering if the next game will feature the cooperative play the series is known for. So, is the new Saints Row multiplayer?
Before we answer that, allow us to provide some background. The original Saints Row was first released in 2006 for Xbox 360. Multiplayer was included in that game, as well its subsequent sequels.
Teaming up with friends to complete missions and cause mayhem has always been a key aspect of Saints Row. But it’s been a while since players have been able to experience some fresh Saints Row action.
The last title – Saints Row IV – came out in 2013. It was followed a couple of years later by Saints Row: Gat out of Hell, which was a standalone expansion to the fourth entry.
The series then took an extended break. A reboot was officially confirmed last year at Gamescom 2021 and was greeted by a mixed reception online. Some felt the reboot looked too different from previous instalments, while others praised developer Volition for trying something new.
Over the last few months, people have grown more optimistic about Saints Row. And perhaps it’s the prospect of causing some good ol’ fashioned chaos with pals online that has helped.
With that being said, let’s turn our attention to the main question on your mind. Is the new Saints Row multiplayer? And what sort of multiplayer will it include?
Is The New Saints Row Multiplayer?
Given that each previous game has included multiplayer, it’s easy to assume that the next Saints Row will feature it too. But reboots are used to reimagine a series and to wipe the slate clean. So it’s not always a given that franchise hallmarks will remain.
Is the new Saint Row multiplayer? Yes – the new Saints Row will feature multiplayer. Multiplayer in the 2022 Saints Row reboot will be two-player co-operative. It will also be drop-in/out. That means multiplayer won’t be a separate mode – players will be able to dip into a friend’s game with ease.
All your progress, personalisation, and customisation will remain, too. It’s a huge bonus for any co-op game if seamless progression between single-player and multiplayer sessions is included.
Thankfully, player progression carries over in Saints Row, so everything you’ve collected and earned will appear in your individual game after your multiplayer session is over. Perhaps even more intriguing is that Saints Row won’t make you replay missions you’ve already completed with a friend while playing co-op.
This even applies to late-game missions. So even if you’re really early in your Saints Row career, if you do a later mission with a friend, you won’t have to do it again when you eventually catch up.
So, there you have it. You will be able to enjoy co-op multiplayer in the upcoming Saints Row reboot. And we can’t wait to try it!
