Marvel’s latest MCU television show is She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. It tells the story of Jennifer Walters and her transformation into the titular character. But what is Jennifer’s connection to Bruce Banner? Is She-Hulk related to Hulk?

That’s a great question, particularly because their relationship is central to the new Disney+ show.

In case you don’t know, She-Hulk first appeared in Marvel comics in February 1980’s The Savage She-Hulk #1. In the comics, Jennifer Walters (She-Hulks real name) turns into a female hulk following a life-threatening injury.

To save her life, she receives a blood transfusion from Bruce Banner. Of course, his blood is contaminated with gamma radiation. She receives his blood and gains similar powers, thus creating She-Hulk.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law‘s explanation for Jennifer’s transformation is similar. Except she doesn’t receive a transfusion from Bruce. He simply bleeds into an open wound on her arm following a car accident.

She instantly transforms into She-Hulk following this. So, you’re probably wondering exactly why and how Bruce Banner and Jennifer Walters know each other. Is She-Hulk related to Hulk? Allow us to explain…

Is She-Hulk Related To Hulk?

Much like Jennifer’s transformation into She-Hulk in the TV show, her familial connection to Bruce Banner is in line with the comic books.

Is She-Hulk related to Hulk? Yes – She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters) and Hulk (Bruce Banner) are related. They are cousins. This is explained in the opening moments of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Much of the first episode explores their relationship, with Bruce helping Jennifer to understand her new powers and learn how to be a superhero.

This slowly creates tension between the cousins – eventually resulting in a hulk-on-hulk fight – as Jennifer does not want her powers. She simply wants to go back to her law career. Although, much to her dismay, Bruce informs her that life can never be the same again.
