The Layers of Fear series returns on 15th June 2023 with a brand new game from co-developers Anshar Studios and Bloober Team. The popular horror adventure series made an impact on the genre with the first two instalments. Described as “horror reimagined”, the next game in the series could be its defining chapter. But its title is confusing. It’s simply called “Layers of Fear“. So, is Layers of Fear 2023 a remake or is it a completely new game?

The first Layers of Fear game was released in February 2016. Its story is told from a first-person perspective and focuses on narrative over action. You play as a painter who is attempting to finish his greatest masterpiece. However, as his mental state deteriorates, you must navigate an ever-changing Victorian mansion and solve puzzles in order to complete the painting.

Layers of Fear 2 launched in May 2019. It features the same style of gameplay as the original. But, this time, players control an actor aboard a ship. As you take instructions from The Director, you must learn the true reasons you were selected to star in his film.

As for the new game, players are keen to know whether they can expect a third chapter or if it’s a remake of the original title.
