Despite a divisive ending, Game of Thrones is still widely regarded as one of the best TV series of all time. That said, its conclusion certainly left a bad taste in the mouthes of many fans. However, the upcoming prequel series House of the Dragon is a golden opportunity to right any wrongs with a long-awaited return to Westeros. With so much anticipation many fans are asking if House of the Dragon is weekly or if the entire first season will come out at once.

Some have argued that House of the Dragon is a prequel nobody asked for. But it’s worth remembering that the same was said about the Breaking Bad prequel series Better Call Saul.

Saul concluded this week to universal acclaim and is regarded by many as even better than its predecessor. Not only did it add rich layers of context and detail to the original show, but it also told its own beautifully realised and tragic story. And the new GoT prequel has a chance to do the same.

So, let’s take a look at what the new series is about and answer whether House of the Dragon is weekly in the US and UK…

What is it about and who is in it?

House of the Dragon is set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones. It will show the downfall of the House of Targaryen and the infamous “Dance of Dragons” war of succession.

Fans of Game of Thrones will be familiar with the names of many of the characters set to appear in House of the Dragon.

Leading the shows cast are Paddy Constantine as King Viserys I Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, and Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. Viserys I is Daenerys Targaryen’s 7x great grandfather.

Is House of the Dragon weekly?

In today’s age of streaming and binge-watching, many GoT fans are wondering if House of the Dragon will follow the pattern of its parent series or not.

Game of Thrones followed the traditional weekly episodic release schedule. However, more and more shows are dumping every episode in one fell swoop, for better or worse.

So, is House of the Dragon weekly? Yes, House of the Dragon will follow a weekly release schedule. A new episode will drop each week for a total of ten weeks.
