A reliable industry insider has claimed that the next Resident Evil game will be released in January 2025.

Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) – who has reliably shared information about a variety of horror games in the past – also says gamers won’t have to wait long for Resident Evil 9 to be revealed.

“I have good news/rumors to deliver on Resident Evil 9. The possible delay I had heard murmurs about can be pushed aside. RE9 should be revealed pretty soon & release next year. If what I heard previously holds true, should be in January.”, they said.

Most interestingly, Dusk Golem added that Resident Evil 9 will “have had about 7 years in dev” by the time of its release. That means Capcom has been working on the game since at least 2018.

While Dusk Golem refused to share specific details about RE9 (preferring to “let Capcom do their thing & let them surprise people”), they did describe the upcoming title as “ambitious”. Dusk Golem also claimed that it has the “biggest budget & longest dev time of any RE game to date”.

They also provided some interesting insight into the development cycle of recent Resident Evil games. “Village [had] started dev as RE8, then became a spin-off title, then ultimately became RE8 again. This game became RE9 ultimately, & yes, RE8 & RE9 were in dev at the same time.”

Apparently, “RE games are usually greenlit in batches & planned out for a few years” so Capcom can release them almost yearly. Dusk Golem added that “there was this funny period in 2018 that RE:2, RE:3, RE:4, RE8 & RE9 were all in dev at the same time.”

Although we don’t know exactly what Capcom has planned for Resident Evil 9, it certainly sounds like we won’t have to wait long to find out.
