A brand new yearly Call of Duty is right up there with death and taxes as one of life’s certainties. And Activision have confirmed 2022’s instalment already. Not only that, but they announced Infinity Ward are developing the new game. As everyone knows by now, CoD games are developed on rotation each year. 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot came from the aforementioned Infinity Ward. Treyarch made 2020’s Black Ops Cold War. And last year’s Vanguard arrived courtesy of Sledgehammer. That means it’s IW’s turn once again.

Infinity Ward are back at the helm

It’s believed Activision confirmed Infinity Ward as developers early this year due to Vanguard‘s poor sales performance. The company’s latest financial report highlighted “lower premium sales for Call of Duty: Vanguard versus the year ago title and lower engagement in Call of Duty: Warzone.” Infinity Ward teased a “new generation of Call of Duty” soon after the report dropped. They also told fans to “Stay frosty.”

We don’t know much else about this year’s CoD just yet. However, numerous leaks and Activision’s own description of the game suggest it’s likely to be a new Modern Warfare 2. The financial report states IW is “working on the most ambitious plan in franchise history, with industry-leading innovation and a broadly appealing franchise setting.” After Vanguard‘s confused and historically inaccurate World War II setting disappointed, a return to CoD‘s most popular era is logical. And Activision clearly want to regain lost ground.

Call of Duty 2022 release date and trailer

Even though the developer of Call of Duty 2022 is known, the actual game is not confirmed. That means if you’re wondering about a release date or trailer, you’ll have to wait. Although you can reasonably expect the game to come out in the same October/November window it arrives in every year.
