How to use Generative Fill in Adobe Photoshop
Generative Fill can be used to achieve a number of different outcomes. However, the process for using it remains generally the same.
This is how to use Generative Fill in Adobe Photoshop:
- Use the Marquee or Lasso tools to select the area in which you want to use the tool.
- Once selected, click “Generative Fill” from the small tool bar.
- Next, enter a text prompt to tell the AI what you want to add/change. Alternatively, you can leave the prompt blank for an automated output.
- Once the process has been completed, you can choose between three output variations.
To change the background of an image with Generative Fill, follow the steps below:
- From the small tool bar, click “Select Subject” – this will highlight the main object in the image e.g. a person.
- Next, select “Invert selection” to highlight everything other than the subject.
- Select “Generative Fill” and enter a prompt to create your desired background. If you leave it blank, the AI will create something.
To extend images, complete the following steps:
- Select the Crop tool.
- Drag one of the sides of the image outwards to create blank space.
- Select the Marquee tool and highlight the newly created blank space.
- Select “Generative Fill”, provide a prompt or leave it blank, and click generate.
- Once completed, the AI will have filled in the previously blank space.
