Horizon Forbidden West: How To Get A Mount

Aloy shows how to get a mount in Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West has been a long time coming. Critics are raving about it, and it’s an early game of the year contender. Part of the reason for that is because of how much there is to do in the game. As a result, there’s absolutely loads to learn about it. So, once you’ve gotten over how incredibly gorgeous Horizon Forbidden West looks, it’s time to enjoy some in-game action. One of the first things you see Aloy do is ride a machine (a Charger, in this case). This is in a cutscene – but you can’t do it in the actual game right away. But how do you actually do it? Here’s how to get a mount in Horizon Forbidden West.

How To Get A Mount in Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West is a huge game. With it being open-world, there’s tonnes of ground to cover. Moving from one objective or town to the next can be very time consuming. That is, unless you have a mount. As with Horizon Zero Dawn, certain machines are able to be tamed and ridden. As mentioned, you can’t do this right away. Luckily, your first mount comes pretty early in the game. And it’s easy.

This is how to get a mount in Horizon Forbidden West. First, complete the third main quest, “To The Brink”. “The Embassy” quest will then begin automatically. Now, follow the quest marker to the Charger site south-west of Chainscrape. Quietly approach a Charger machine undetected and hold triangle to override. Once complete, the Charger will be tame and you can press square to ride your mount.

See – told you it was easy. From here, you can head on to Barren Light to continue “The Embassy” quest line. With the ability to ride a machine, getting to Barren Light is much quicker than it would be on foot.
