One such feature is StandBy Mode, which is brand new in the latest update.

StandBy Mode introduces a handy standby screen that displays useful widgets, information and notifications while your phone is charging.

Using the new feature is simple as it is on automatically after updating your device.

Simply plug your phone in to charge or place it on a wireless charger and place it in landscape mode. Once the screen goes dark, the standby screen will appear.

If it’s the first time you’re using the new feature, you will be greeted by an information screen explaining how it works. After clicking through that, you will come to the main standby screen.

And that’s it – using StandBy Mode is that simple.

Once you have the new feature up and running, you will likely want to edit which widgets are displayed on the standby screen. This is quick and easy to do.

This is how to edit StandBy Mode in iOS 17:

You can scroll through the default widgets by swiping up and down on the left or right side of the screen.

If you want to edit the available widgets, hold down on the standby screen to edit StandBy Mode.

Next, click on the ‘-‘ button next to a widget to remove it or press the ‘+’ button in the top left corner to add widgets.

In the add widget screen, you can sort between widgets using the categories on the left or you can search for a widget in the bar at the top of the screen.

Once you have selected the widget you want, press ‘+ Add Widget’ to add it to the standby screen.

If you don’t like StandBy mode – or it isn’t turned on automatically – it is easy to enable or disable in Settings.

Simply navigate to the Settings app and look for the StandBy settings, as highlighted below.
