She-Hulk: Attorney at Law debuted on Disney+ earlier this week. And it has been well-received by many Marvel fans and critics alike. But if you haven’t seen it yet, you might have one simple question on your mind. How does Jennifer Walters become She-Hulk?
Jennifer Walters is She-Hulk in her normal, human form. Much like her cousin Bruce Banner, Jennifer has the ability to transform into a huge green monster. As a result, she gains incredible strength and power.
Jennifer’s hulk transformation is arguably less extreme than Bruce’s. She retains her human mind and personality, and can pretty much transform at will.
Her appearance also remains far more similar to her human form, and She-Hulk is less muscular than Hulk.
In case you don’t know, She-Hulk first appeared in Marvel comics in February 1980’s The Savage She-Hulk #1. In the comics, Jennifer Walters turns into a female hulk after receiving a life-threatening injury at the hands of mobsters.
To save her life, she receives a blood transfusion from Bruce Banner. Of course, his blood is contaminated with gamma radiation. She receives his blood and gains similar powers, thus creating She-Hulk.
But how does it work in the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law TV show? How does Jennifer Walters become She-Hulk?
How does Jennifer Walters become She-Hulk?
Each She-Hulk episode runs for approximately 30 minutes. And the first episode doesn’t waste any time getting right into the action and detailing She-Hulk‘s backstory.
After a brief opening scene showing Jennifer preparing for a court appearance, she breaks the fourth wall and begins explaining to viewers how she became She-Hulk.
So, how does Jennifer Walters become She-Hulk? In She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Jennifer Walters becomes She-Hulk following a car accident with Bruce Banner. Bruce bleeds into an open wound on her arm, which contaminates her blood with gamma radiation.
The accident happened during a road trip. Jennifer and Bruce are discussing Captain America, when a spaceship suddenly appears in front of them. This causes the car to crash off the road. Jennifer frees Bruce from the flipped car, which is when he bleeds on her.
Jennifer instantly transforms into She-Hulk. Bruce later explains in his lab that she absorbed a lethal dose of gamma radiation from his blood, and she shares his genetic ability to synthesise gamma radiation into “something else”.
