I think we can all agree that Game of Thrones‘ ending was a disappointment. Thankfully, House of the Dragon is making up for that. It has everything fans could want and episode three was arguably the most exciting yet. New characters were introduced, too, such as Jason Lannister. Before we get into that, it’s important to explain the context of House of the Dragon within the wider Game of Thrones universe.

Episode 3 – “Second of His Name” – jumps a further three years ahead. Rhaenyra Targaryen is still heir despite the birth of Prince Aegon Targaryen. Viserys is keen for Rhaenyra to marry now she is of age so that she can protect the Targaryen lineage.
A great hunt is held in celebration of Aegon’s second birthday. During the hunt, Rhaenyra Targaryen is approached by Jason Lannister. He hints at potentially marrying her, but Rhaenyra isn’t interested and complains to her father.
