House of the Dragon: ‘Cheese’ actor confirms dog is perfectly fine

We can all breathe a sigh of relief. The adorable dog that was the target of a kick from ‘Cheese’, one of Daemon Targaryen’s assassins in the first episode of House of the Dragon Season 2, is absolutely fine, actor Mark Stobbart has confirmed.

The gruesome season premiere showed the fallout from the end of last season where Princess (or Queen) Rhaenyra’s son, Lucerys Valaryon, was unceremoniously munched by Vhagar, the stupidly large dragon under the command of her half-brother, Aemond.

As expected, Rhaenyra was heart-broken at the loss of her young son and demanded Aemond pay (in blood, of course) for what he had done. Daemon, Rhaenyra’s ever-dutiful husband and uncle, took it upon himself to organise Aemond’s demise by returning to King’s Landing, once again donning his trademark black cloak and hood – the only logical outfit choice when doing a dodgy deal.

When he got there, he linked up with an assassin, ‘Blood’, and a rat-catcher with intimate knowledge of the Red Keep, ‘Cheese’, who he contracted to assassinate Aemond (or, as became apparent, another Prince in his place). So, off the pair went (Cheese’s dog in tow) to find – and murder – Aemond Targaryen.

After sneaking past an inebriated King Aegon, chilling with his bros on the Iron Throne, Cheese tried to dip out on the deal which didn’t go down too well with his larger, stronger companion. Blood grabbed Cheese, holding him up to the wall and threatening him. Once he’d been let down, Cheese kicked his loyal pooch out of frustration – much to the shock of everybody at home.

While Blood and Cheese went on to behead young Prince Jaehaerys, most viewers were more concerned about whether or not Cheese’s dog was ok.

In an adorable post on Instagram, actor Mark Stobbart shared a picture of himself with the cute dog and wrote: “Let’s just chill about the dog! We were best pals. No canines were launched in anger. Rats, however….”

So, there we have it. The real tragedy of ‘Blood and Cheese’ is, in fact, nothing to worry about – the dog is fine and he’s best mates with Mark Stobbart. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Jaehaerys Targaryen, who’s now without his head and the most recent victim of the bloody Dance of the Dragons.
