Horizon Forbidden West has no shortage of stuff to do. From quests to collectibles, there’s a tonne of activities to get stuck into. One such activity is finding and overriding all the Tallnecks. To recap, Tallnecks are probably Horizon‘s most famous and memorable machines. They’re the gigantic Diplodocus-like machines with flat, circular heads. Crucially, they also hold the key to unlocking all the secrets any given area has to offer. One of these Tallnecks is located in The Stillsands, east of Las Vegas. As with all Tallnecks, you have to figure out how to climb it. For this one, it’s not immediately obvious. Working out how to override it requires a bit of thought. But we’ve got you covered. Here’s how to climb The Stillsands Tallneck in Horizon Forbidden West…
How To Climb The Stillsands Tallneck in Horizon Forbidden West
Often with Tallnecks, you need to scale a nearby structure to jump across and reach their heads. The one at The Stillsands isn’t so straightforward. Dotted around are a number of “ballistas”. These look like large crossbows and fire anchors that can be used to bring down the Tallneck. When Aloy arrives, it’s clear that a group of Oseram were trying to do just that until they were attacked and killed by machines. When you know the location of the three ballistas, you simply need to wait in position until the Tallneck strolls past.
This is how to climb the Stillsands Tallneck in Horizon Forbidden West. You need to use the ballistas in the Oseram camp to take down the Tallneck. There are three in total – one in the south of the camp, one in the middle, and one in the east. By looking at the map, you can clearly see the Tallneck’s circular path. Use this to plan your ballista shots. When firing the ballistas, aim for the illuminated blue spots on the Tallneck – these are weak points. After you’ve attached the second anchor, a horde of machines will arrive. Dispatch these and then fire the third ballista. This will bring down the Tallneck. Now, climb The Stillsands Tallneck by approaching the head while it’s down. Override as normal.
Taking down the Tallneck might seem a somewhat drastic approach – especially given their nature as gentle giants. Don’t worry, though, it gets right back up and carries on as normal. And that’s it! After overriding the Tallneck, you will have access to all the nearby location data.
