Hogwarts Legacy has several different types of puzzles, including the mysterious ‘Merlin Trials’.
The Merlin Trials were created by the legendary wizard who was himself a student at Hogwarts.
All the trials can be found outside in the area around the school. Three of them are located around Aranshire: one to the east, one in the middle, and one to the west. The west Merlin Trial is down the hill from the hamlet and sits next to the Black Lake.

Each Merlin Trial begins in the same way: finding a spiral plate embedded in the ground.
After using Mallowsweet to activate the trial, you can start to solve it.
This is how to solve the south west Aranshire Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Legacy: Find and move the large ball into the hole.
From the swirl, look to the south east to see the hole in the ground.
Next, look to the north east up the rock face. The large ball sits at the top. Run up to it and hit it with five basic casts to push it down.
Finally, roll the ball into the hole by using basic casts.
Once the ball is in place, the Merlin Trial is complete.
