The Great Hall is one of the most famous locations in the Wizarding World. As a result, it is one of the places that many players will want to visit first on their journey in Hogwarts Legacy. However, it has a number of secrets of its own – including one of the game’s many arithmancy puzzle doors.
Right after you arrive at Hogwarts, you will immediately visit the Great Hall in a cutscene in which you are sorted into one of the school’s four houses. But you can’t explore it right away.
Depending on when you return later on, the legendary hall will either be deserted at night or crammed with feasting students in the day. Either way, finding the arithmancy puzzle door is easy.
If you have already visited before, simply fast travel to the Great Hall floo flame. If not, set a way point on the Hogwarts map and walk there.
Once you have entered through the huge doors, head over to the left side of the hall and down the corridor.

How To Solve Great Hall Door Puzzle in Hogwarts Legacy
Opening the door requires an understanding of the magical discipline of ‘arithmancy’ to solve. Arithmancy is the study of the magical properties of numbers.
All the puzzle doors require you to find the missing numbers in two separate math puzzles. Each puzzle consists of three numbers or corresponding symbols that add up to the sum total in the middle.
There is an invaluable cheat sheet inside a chest next to the blackboard directly opposite the Library Annex puzzle door. The numbers and symbols on the sheet apply to every puzzle door in Hogwarts Legacy, including the one in the Great Hall.
This is how to solve the Great Hall door puzzle in Hogwarts Legacy:
Turn the two dials to match up with the symbols below –
- ? = Spider (8)
- ?? = Three-headed Dragon (3)
N.B. Both dials can be found in the corridor leading the door.
Once you have set both dials to the correct symbol, return to the door and it will open.
