Hogwarts Legacy has finally arrived. After more than two years of non-stop hype online, Harry Potter fans are at last able to play the Wizarding World RPG they’ve always dreamed of.
In Hogwarts Legacy, players join the eponymous school as a fifth-year student in the 1890s. Its time period sets it clearly apart from the Harry Potter novels and films. This allows the game to tell its own story about “a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world.”
Players are also able to put their own stamp on their Legacy adventure. That’s because you’re free to create your own witch or wizard, and even experience your very own sorting ceremony.
During your time at Hogwarts, you can forge relationships, learn spells, attend classes, and explore the world in and around the school in exquisite detail.
Early reactions to the game have been very positive. And as players get stuck in, they’ll start to encounter numerous puzzles, challenges, quests, and enemies.
Additionally, players will collect a variety of different clothing items and outfits during their time at Hogwarts. But if you really like a particular outfit, you may not want to change to something else just because it has better stats.
Thankfully, you can change the appearance of clothes in Legacy. That means an item can look like another piece of clothing, while still retaining its stats. But how you do it isn’t clearly explained.

As mentioned, clothes in Hogwarts Legacy feature their own stat benefits. But it goes without saying that outfits don’t all look the same.
However, changing the way your clothes look in Hogwarts Legacy is pretty simple.
This is how to change clothing appearance in Hogwarts Legacy. In the “Gear” screen, hover over the item of clothing you want to change. The option to “Change Appearance” will appear. Press Square/X to do this. You will now be able to change its appearance to resemble a different item while still retaining its stats. Simply select the item you want your clothes to look like.
Now you know what to do, you can keep a specific look while still swapping and changing outfits to get those all-important stat bonuses.
