A new report from Bloomberg claims that Hogwarts Legacy Director’s Cut is being developed by Rocksteady, the studio behind this year’s biggest flop: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
The report primarily concerns the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League which apparently cost Warner Bros. $200 million dollars; however, it also addressed Rocksteady’s future projects.
According to inside sources, a culture of “toxic positivity” that “discouraged criticism” contributed to the failure of the game which was originally scheduled to launch in 2019/2020. The delay was reportedly down to Rocksteady’s lack of experience in making multiplayer and live-service games.
Bloomberg said that executives at Warner Bros. expected Suicide Squad to turn into a billion-dollar franchise saying that everything would eventually come together despite its problematic development.
After Suicide Squad‘s colossal flop in January, Warner Bros. Games boss David Haddad visited Rocksteady’s London office where he said WB’s games division was understaffed compared to other publishers and that the company wanted to do more collaborations between its twelve studios.
According to the report, many of Rocksteady’s staff are now working on a director’s cut version of Hogwarts Legacy which was originally developed by Avalanche Software, another studio under the Warner Bros. umbrella.
Rocksteady’s leadership team are reportedly in the process of pitching a new single-player “which would return Rocksteady to its roots.” Presumably, this would be something similar to the acclaimed Batman: Arkham series which brought the studio to prominence.
The new Hogwarts Legacy project has not been officially announced nor did the report share an expected release date.
