Various rumours of a Metal Gear remake have been circulating for some time. But exactly what (if anything) publisher Konami is working on remains unclear. Some reports suggest 1998’s Metal Gear Solid is being remade. Others claim that Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is receiving the remake treatment. However, nothing has been confirmed. Now, a new Instagram post by Hogwarts Legacy composer J. Scott Rakozy has dropped one of the biggest hints yet that something Metal Gear-related is indeed in the works.

The post – which appeared on Rakozy’s (@rockinrakozy) Instagram story – was noticed by Reddit user u/justfunsy and subsequently shared on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit.

In the video, Rakozy’s monitor can be seen and he appears to be using music production software to work on a version of the Metal Gear theme which can be heard playing. The Instagram story (which will only be available to view for 24 hours) can be watched at this link.

Alongside the story, Rakozy wrote: “If you know… You know…”. Exactly what the composer – who worked on Hogwarts Legacy‘s highly praised soundtrack – is doing with the apparent Metal Gear theme is unknown. However, it would not be unreasonable to suggest he is making music to include in the long-rumoured remake(s).

The Metal Gear series features one of the most beloved soundtracks in gaming history. So, fans will be be pleased to hear that a composer involved in a game like Hogwarts Legacy may have been handed the reins for Metal Gear‘s music.

Metal Gear has lay dormant since the release of 2018’s Metal Gear Survive. Survive was Konami’s one and (to-date) only attempt at making a Metal Gear title of its own. As a zombie survival game, it deviated heavily from the series’ roots and was panned by critics and fans alike. Hideo Kojima’s controversial departure from Konami following the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is often cited as the primary reason a new and faithful Metal Gear has never been made.
