Arrowhead Game Studios, the developers behind Helldivers 2, has confirmed that their team has manually fixed a glitch for 1.3 million players that caused difficulty modes to not unlock when they should have done.
The hit game for PS5 and PC has taken the gaming world by storm, but it has not been without its problems. However, the team has been working to fix these issues with ongoing and regular patches.
In Helldivers 2, players complete missions across nine different difficulty modes, the hardest of which is “Helldive”. When players start out, they must complete a full Operation in one difficulty mode to unlock the next one.
For some players, subsequent difficulty modes have not been unlocking automatically after completing the previous one.
On Discord, Spitz, one of Arrowhead’s employees, explained that the team has been working their way through the backlog of requests and has fixed the problem for more than 1 million players.
“Earlier today, we ran through a bunch of manual progression requests to fix locked difficulties for about 1,300,000 players who hadn’t been able to unlock them normally,” Spitz explained.
“We’re looking to push through the rest of the difficulty unlock requests tomorrow over the course of the day in smaller batches. Anyone stuck on a certain difficulty should, fingers crossed, have the issue fixed soon if it wasn’t already fixed earlier today,” they added.

Prior to this fix, players had been reporting the issue and sharing their frustrations online.
@ARMasterX said they were “sick and tired” of the problem which had left them stuck on Easy difficulty.
@JanuaryMade_ also took to X to explain that they had found themselves unable to progress up the difficulty modes in Helldivers 2.
With the fix being rolled out, players who have been experiencing the issue should finally be able to fight for democracy at higher difficulty levels.
