This guide explains the Defend Campaign not working bug in Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2 dropped earlier this month and has turned into a smash hit for Sony. PC and PS5 users have been jumping into the Galactic War in the tens of thousands and now the whole gaming community is invested in eradicating the bot and bug scum.
The game takes place amid a huge war for control of the galaxy as the human colonies of Super Earth fight against the forces of the Automatons and the Terminids.
Helldivers 2 is a four player co-op game that sees players team up to deploy onto planets and undertake missions to further the war effort. Central to this are Liberation and Defend campaigns.
Liberation campaigns see the Helldiver forces of Super Earth fight to free a planet from the control of the Automatons or Terminids. On the other hand, Defend campaigns involve fighters defending a planet from an enemy invasion.
The current Major Order states that players must Win at least 8 Defend Campaigns against the Automatons. However, after completing Defend operations, players are finding that the progress bar has not been counting these completed operations.
Defend Campaign Not Working – Major Order bug
The supposed “bug” with Major Order progression that is causing players to think that Defend Campaigns are not working is actually not a bug at all.
In Helldivers 2, the whole community works towards a common aim: winning the Galactic War. Everything you and your squad mates do contributes towards the war effort.
The Major Order is not an order specific to you, it is actually an order for the whole community. It is telling every player to complete Defend Campaigns.
Defend Campaigns are multi-day events. If enough players successfully complete Defend operations/missions in that time, then the Defend Campaign will be won. However, if this doesn’t happen, the campaign will be lost.
So, the fact that you are not seeing progress on the major order is because you are simply completing operations/missions that are part of the wider Defend Campaign.
The progress towards completing a Defend Campaign can be seen when hovering over a relevant planet (like Mantes). The bars in the top left indicate who is winning and losing. The blue bar is Super Earth and the red or yellow bar is for Automatons/Terminids. Whichever is higher has the edge in the campaign.
