We’ve finally seen what Rockstar Games has been cooking up for all these years. The Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) trailer is here at last and it looks incredible. It’s set to be the most immersive and life-like GTA yet and, if reactions on social media are anything to go by, fans can’t wait to explore the gorgeous state of Leonida.
In case you’re wondering, Leonida is based on Florida. While Florida has been mentioned in previous GTA HD Universe games (most notably GTA 4), the confirmation that GTA 6 takes place in Leonida effectively retcons its name in series canon.
The exact reason for the change is unknown. However, it has most likely been done for consistency. GTA 4 and GTA 5 were set in fictionalised versions of New York and California respectively. So, it makes sense that GTA 6‘s Vice City is located in its own fictitious state.
Rumours have been circulating for years that the new GTA won’t be limited to just Vice City. It has even been suggested that GTA 6 will feature numerous locations across multiple states and countries. This also corresponds with theories that claim the game will have an evolving and ever-changing map.
This remains to be seen and it may be some time before we get more information about the size of GTA 6‘s world. However, the reveal trailer showed us a number of exquisite and unique environments that will be included in Grand Theft Auto VI at launch. Let’s take a look at them.
Confirmed environments in GTA 6 State of Leonida
As Leonida is based on real-life Florida, fans will likely be expecting many of the same environments to be replicated in GTA 6.
Here are all the environments in Leonida that we know about so far:
- Beaches
- Wetlands
- Swamps
- Sea
We will have to wait for more footage of GTA 6 to be able to confirm what other natural environments the game features.
What we do know, however, is that all these environments are recreated in great detail. While few would’ve expected the game’s graphics to disappoint, it has already exceeded even the highest expectations. Reactions to GTA 6‘s visuals have been universally positive, with many praising their realism.
“GTA 6 graphics for an open world game are insane” wrote Mutahar of Some Ordinary Gamers. Similarly, Gaming Detective of Rockstar Universe said: “GTA 6 graphics look crazy good. True next-gen visuals”.
One of the most notable features from the trailer is the abundance of wildlife in the game’s natural environments. Its wetlands will apparently include huge flamboyances of flamingoes (yes, that’s what a group of flamingoes is called), as well as alligators. Other birds can also be seen in the trailer.
Given that Rockstar states on the game’s official website that Leonida is “home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond”, it’s safe to assume that GTA 6 will have largest and most environmentally diverse map in series history. With the game still two years away from release, we can’t wait to learn more about what other unique areas it will include.
