This guide answers “Who is Týr in God of War Ragnarok?”
It has been four years since the release of 2018’s God of War. After that game set such a tremendously high bar and left fans on one almighty cliffhanger, it has been difficult to see how God of War Ragnarok could possibly meet expectations.
Thankfully, God of War Ragnarok has delivered an all-time classic experience. And this sterling sequel is bound to be in contention with Elden Ring for 2022 Game of the Year. It currently stands at a colossal 94/100 on Metacritic having received many 10 out of 10 reviews.
God of War Ragnarok follows father and son duo Kratos and Atreus, the latter now a teenager, as they battle to stop Ragnarok with Fimbulwinter drawing to a close.
Being as a few years have passed since the last game was released, it is likely fans will have to get reacquainted with God of War Ragnarok‘s lore and gameplay.
The new game picks up right where the previous one left off. And there’s a helpful re-cap option in the main menu.
Nonetheless, refreshing your memory on the story, and wrapping your head around the fast paced action and numerous puzzles can be difficult.
The game reintroduces numerous fan favourite characters – but there’s also a whole host of new faces to get to know.
Early on in the game, Kratos and Atreus are visited by Thor and Odin.
Odin mentions that Atreus has been searching for Týr. But he doesn’t make it clear exactly who Týr is.
This has left players asking questions about him. So, let’s answer “Who is Týr?” in God of War Ragnarok…
Who is Týr in God of War Ragnarok?
As with the last game, God of War Ragnarok has a rich lore that is packed full of characters from Norse and Greek mythology.
However, unless you’re already an expert on those ancient mythologies, the number of characters can be a bit overwhelming.
The majority of the main characters are gods or demigods who are related in one way or another. And each of them has unique powers and responsibilities.
So, who is Týr in God of War Ragnarok? In Norse mythology, Týr is the God of War, Law, and Honour. Odin is his father and his half-brothers are Thor, Baldur, Hodr, and Bragi. In the God of War continuity, despite being the Norse God of War, Týr sought peace.
In the end, Odin had Týr imprisoned for plotting with the Giants.
As a result, many believed Týr had died and would never return. However, Kratos and Atreus learn he is still alive thanks to the visions in the Sköll and Hati shrine.
After learning Týr’s true fate, the father and son duo then set out to find him in order to prevent Ragnarok.
