2022 has been light on big video game releases. Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, and a handful of others were notable exceptions. However, gamers are yearning for more. And one game that people can’t wait for is God of War Ragnarok. It’s the sequel to 2018’s incredibly successful and universally acclaimed God of War. It’s set to bring the series’ Norse Saga to a close and depict the long-foretold cataclysmic event known as Ragnarok. Sadly, news broke a few weeks ago that Ragnarok may have been delayed to 2023. But now a new report has surfaced (courtesy of Bloomberg) which suggests the game is still on track for this year. But when exactly will it be released?

Release date revealed

Sony is reportedly still planning to release the game for PS5 and PS4 in 2022. And according to three industry-insiders with knowledge of Ragnarok‘s development, it will launch in November. It has been subject to numerous delays already due to a variety of problems. Most notably the Covid-19 pandemic, among other issues.

According to two of the individuals Bloomberg spoke with, the game’s release date will be officially confirmed very soon. Before the end of the month, in fact! Of course, we’ll have to wait and see if that turns out to be true. But if Sony are planning to release the game before the end of the year, a late-June release date announcement makes sense.

Before you get too excited, it’s worth pointing out that Bloomberg did note that God of War Ragnarok could still be delayed. However, there’s no indication it has been or will be. But we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed, just in case!

God of War Ragnarok story

So, why exactly are fans so excited for the sequel? After the epic events of the first game, Ragnarok is coming. Fimbulwinter is almost over and it’s up to Kratos and his son Atreus to stop the approaching apocalypse. Along the way, they’ll come against more Norse gods – including Týr (Norse god of war), Thor (god of thunder), and Freya.

You may recall that Freya was an ally of the father-son duo in the previous game. However, she is now seeking revenge against Kratos for killing Baldur – her son, who was the main antagonist in 2018’s God of War. We also can’t wait to find out more about Atreus actually being Loki. Ragnarok looks set to resolve that surprise twist, too.
