This guide explains how to defeat The Hateful at the Watchtower in God of War Ragnarok.
God of War Ragnarok is the sequel to 2018’s acclaimed God of War reboot. After four years, it’s safe to say fans are relishing the chance to jump back into Kratos’ god-sized shoes.
Despite delays and a release on the PS4 that prompted concerns, God of War Ragnarok has launched to astonishingly strong reviews. With ten-out-of-tens abound, it’s clear the game is a standout title for Sony and a worthy successor to the 2018 title.
In the new sequel, we rejoin Kratos and Atreus as they journey to stop the cataclysmic Ragnarok and learn more about the latter’s true identity as the god Loki.
Along the way the father and son duo join forces with some old friends. They also come up against new, dangerous foes like Thor and Odin.
However, after four years, it can be difficult to remember the story of the previous game and who everyone is.
The same goes for God of War Ragnarok‘s gameplay, too.
Despite sinking tens of hours into the last game, it’s only natural to forget how things work in this follow-up. Be it in combat, navigation, skills, or collectibles.
In God of War Ragnarok, you come up against a number of mini-bosses during your adventure. Six of these are The Hateful.
They are a collection of powerful Draugr enemies, which must be defeated individually to complete the ‘Born From Fire’ Favour.
The first Hateful you encounter is at The Watchtower in Svartalfheim – and it’ll likely be one of your toughest challenges yet.
If you’re struggling against it, keep reading to find out how to defeat The Hateful at The Watchtower in God of War Ragnarok.
How To Defeat The Hateful At The Watchtower In God of War Ragnarok
To activate the ‘Born From Fire’ Favour, you must defeat The Hateful at The Watchtower first. You can reach The Watchtower by heading towards it from the Bay of Bounty Mystic Gateway and Sindri’s workstation.
Before facing The Hateful, it’s well worth ensuring you have a Resurrection Stone. If you don’t, craft one at Sindri’s workstation.
This is how to defeat The Hateful at The Watchtower in God of War Ragnarok. Watch out for The Hateful’s dangerous red ring attacks and be constantly ready to dodge. This is the key to winning the fight.
When it slams both its axes into the ground, it will send flames rapidly towards you. This attack will set Kratos on fire and deal significant damage so get out of the way quickly when you see it coming.
Other red ring attacks can appear as part of combos so may be unexpected. One of these involves The Hateful dashing towards you and stringing together a series of attacks – try to dodge each of these with accurate timing.
Do your best to parry its attacks when possible to create openings for counter attacks and don’t forget to use Atreus’ arrows.
Two lesser Draugr will come to The Hateful’s aid during the fight. Get rid of them as quickly as possible using Spartan Rage, however be sure to watch for The Hateful which may take advantage while you’re distracted.
During the battle, just remember to stay on your toes and keep moving. The Hateful is fast, but if you capitalise on openings after successful dodges you can land serious damage.
