We finally know when the next God of War will be with us. It’s mere months away – we can’t wait. And a new leak gives us another reason to get excited. It appears God of War Ragnarok will feature a 4K 60FPS mode.
The game will be released on November 9th 2022 for PS4 and PS5. It’s the second and final chapter in the long-running series’ Norse Saga. It will see Kratos and his son Atreus contending with the eponymous cataclysmic event and fallout from the previous game.
If that wasn’t enticing enough, this latest leak indicates the PS5 version of Ragnarok will include the much-desired 4K 60 frames-per-second gameplay option. I suspect fans will be VERY happy.
God of War Ragnarok 4K 60FPS PS5
The apparent leak comes from UK retailer ShopTo. Their official listing for the new God of War is very detailed and contains interesting titbits about the game.
According to the listing, God of War Rangarok will include resolution and performance modes on PS5. This is to be expected, as many current-gen games provide these options.
However, things get more interesting in ShopTo’s breakdown of PS5-exclusive features – which has a section dedicated to “Stunning visuals”.
God of War Ragnarok will supposedly allow players to “Switch between full 4K resolution at a targeted 30 frames per second, or dynamic resolution upscaled to 4K at a targeted 60fps.”
That means God of War Ragnarok will offer a 4K 60FPS experience on PS5. Even if it is an upscaled one.
The listing also notes the players will be able to…
– Bask in the beautiful worlds you travel through, brought to life by stunning art direction and arresting attention to detail.
– Behold enhanced reflections, lighting and shadows, as well as increased geometric detail and enhanced deformable snow.
We were already counting the days, but now it really can’t come quick enough!
PS5-exclusive features
In addition to its gameplay modes, God of War Ragnarok will have other PS5-only features. This includes DualSense integration (haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionality), fully-optimized 3D audio, and fast loading via SSD.
Of course, many players will pick Ragnarok up for PS4. PS5s are still in short supply, after all. So, how will it perform on the older console?
That’s unclear and we’ll probably have to wait till launch day to find out. Naturally, it won’t look as good on PS4 as it does on PS5. It also won’t feature different graphical options. However, PS4 Pro owners can likely expect a somewhat superior experience.
