Gen V‘s final episode arrived on Amazon Prime on 3rd November. “Guardians of Godolkin” capped off an impressive debut season for The Boys‘ first spin-off. It successfully told its own unique story while tying it closely to its parent show. Gen V featured a number of cameos from well-known characters from The Boys. But arguably its most notable came during the closing moments of season one’s last episode. So, what exactly did Homelander do in the last episode of Gen V?

In case you haven’t seen Gen V or “Guardians of Godolkin”, it’s worth quickly recapping what happened. The season-long arc regarding ‘The Woods’ came to a head. The Woods is a secret medical facility beneath Godolkin University. It is used to conduct experiments on unstable supes who are trapped there and unable to leave.

During the course of the season, the primary focus of The Woods became the development of a contagious virus capable of killing supes. In “Guardians of Godolkin”, supes Cate and Sam free The Woods’ captives who go on a murderous rampage across the university campus. Many non-supes suffer brutal and grisly deaths.

While this is happening, Ashley Barrett is attending a meeting with the trustees of the university. Scared for her life, Ashley requests that Homelander intervenes. Before he arrives, she tasks Marie Moreau with stopping the escaped supes. In return, she promises her a place in The Seven and a meeting with her estranged sister.

But how did Homelander factor into the chaos of Gen V‘s final episode?

Marie and her friends Jordan, Emma, and Andre successfully stop the escaped supes. As Jordan approaches Marie, Cate attempts to use her mind control powers on Jordan by touching him. However, Marie blows her arm off before she can reach him.

As Cate screams in pain, Homelander appears. With an irritated look on his face, he approaches Marie and asks “what kind of animal are you?” and if she likes attacking her own kind. Marie is shocked and confused as Homelander warns onlookers to “stay back”. He then uses his heat vision to knock Marie unconscious.

The scene cuts to a news bulletin where the news reader informs viewers that Marie and her friends were behind the Godolkin murder spree. Sam and Cate are named as the new Guardians of Godolkin. Homelander watches the news bulletin with a smile on his face.

In the next scene, Marie awakens in a hospital bed. She quickly discovers that she and her friends have been placed in a medical facility with no escape and the episode ends.

Guardians of Godolkin mid-credits scene

In the episode’s mid-credits scene, Billy Butcher is briefly seen exploring The Woods facility which has seemingly been abandoned. He quietly mutters to himself “what a bunch of c**ts.”

Exactly how Gen V will link into season four of The Boys is unknown. However, reports suggest The Boys‘ next season will take place just days after the events of Gen V.

Likewise, it is a strong possibility that season four of The Boys will include at least some elements of the supe virus plot established in Gen V.
