A bounty of 10,000 Super Credits has been placed on the head of a Helldivers 2 player called GantzTheDemon.
It is the latest development in the game’s growing community lore. The online cooperative multiplayer game has taken PC and PS5 by storm, with millions of players flocking to defend Super Earth.
As part of an ongoing galactic war, players must join squads of up to four players and battle across a series of missions against the Terminids and Automatons.
Each mission culminates with an extraction, meaning all players must head to a landing pad and survive long enough for the escape shuttle to arrive.
Typically, this is the most frantic and difficult part of any mission. That’s usually because squads will be running low on so-called “reinforcements” (the ability to revive dead teammates).
Anyone who dies when no reinforcements are left will not be able to extract with the rest of the squad.
And this is where GantzTheDemon’s betrayal and subsequent notoriety comes in.
Who is GantzTheDemon in Helldivers 2?
GantzTheDemon is a Helldivers 2 player accused of killing his teammates during the extraction at the end of a mission.
After killing members of his own squad, GantzTheDemon exfiltrated from the mission alone. Footage of the incident was first shared on TikTok by @yooajgaming.
The original video has attracted over 3.7 million views and 350K likes at the time of writing. The video featured a simple caption which captivated other Helldivers 2 players: “We have a rogue helldiver among us.”
The footage of the betrayal and mystery surrounding it has spread like wildfire. Countless players have declared their intention to track GantzTheDemon down and get revenge.
Meanwhile, other players have placed bounties of up to 10,000 Super Credits (Helldivers 2‘s in-game currency) on GantzTheDemon’s head.
The reason the incident has caused so much anger and upset is because of Helldivers 2‘s shared objective. It has been called the least toxic online multiplayer game, largely because players must work together to prevent alien foes from taking over the galaxy.
As such, any missions that are failed directly benefit the enemy.
With Helldivers 2 players everywhere now on the look out for GantzTheDemon, it appears this particular player will never be able to play the game normally again.
As for what fate awaits GantzTheDemon, we will just have to wait and see.
