Forza Motorsport, the eighth entry in the popular racing sim sub-series, launched on 10 October. While it has received generally positive reviews from critics (it has a score of 85 on Metacritic), the game is full of graphical bugs, including extreme texture pop-in. As a result, fans have been sharing their frustrations with the state of the game online.
Over on X (formerly Twitter), user @Plastictoyrobot responded to someone who asked if the game is stable on PC. They explained: “This game stutters constantly, texture loading is hit or miss and the visuals don’t justify the poor performance. This game was somehow rushed to market unfinished after 6 years of development. I’d say wait 6 months and check back. I wish I did.”
I have also been playing Forza Motorsport since launch and am disappointed to confirm that the game is indeed littered with texture pop-in, other graphical issues, and inconsistent performance.
I posted a video of the issues I had encountered to X. In the brief 40 second clip, there were approximately 20 instances of texture pop-in. For a AAA game that retails at $70, that is simply inexcusable.
On Reddit, u/Max_fortune_ shared their experience with Forza Motorsport. “Super happy with it. Game looks great good FPS etc but the one issue I’m having is textures and models popping in and out of existence when on track,” they explained.
“Not super fun racing when you can’t see the f**king track and your cars driving on nothing. And buildings and bridges etc keep deciding to either exist or not,” they concluded.
The issue was added to the official Forza Motorsport Known Issues log on 9 October with the following descriptor: “Environment – Rendering issues causing parts of the track to disappear and become transparent”.
As of writing, developer Turn 10 Studios has not released a statement addressing the problems.
