This article explaining who Theo Mora is in Fool Me Once contains major spoilers.

Fool Me Once is the latest Netflix adaption of a Harlan Coben novel. Released on New Year’s Day, it’s a great binge-watch and pretty gripping from start to finish.

The show follows former soldier Maya Stern, played by Michelle Keegan. Maya is grieving the murder of her husband, Joe Burkett. She is also contending with PTSD from her time in the army, an ongoing police investigation, and a difficult mother-in-law in Judith Burkett (Joanna Lumley).

When Joe seemingly reappears, Maya begins to question her reality and wonders if he could still be alive. She begins to seek answers and uncovers a multi-decade conspiracy with Joe’s family at its centre. Along the way, viewers are introduced to a number of characters. Some are seen and others are only mentioned.

This can be confusing, as the show’s narrative is already fairly complicated. With lots of different characters to remember, it becomes somewhat challenging to follow if you aren’t watching carefully. One character that is mentioned repeatedly but only briefly seen is Theo Mora.

Therefore, viewers may be wondering exactly who Theo Mora is and why he is important to the show’s plot. So, let’s break down the character’s role in Fool Me Once.

Who is Theo Mora in Fool Me Once?

Theo Mora was a classmate of brothers Joe and Andrew Burkett and their friend Christopher Swain.

In 1996, the boys, along with two other friends, took Theo from the school grounds and into some abandoned ruins as a prank. They wore masks and tied him to a chair. With bottles of alcohol in their hands, they danced around Theo who was sitting next to a fire.

The boys, led by Joe Burkett, began to pour vodka into Theo’s mouth using a funnel. Theo had a seizure and died as result of the ‘prank’. In the present day, Christopher Swain explained to Maya that he believed Joe wanted to prank Theo as he was jealous that Theo was funny, outgoing, and better at football.

Theo’s death is the first incident in the long-running conspiracy orchestrated by the Burkett family. To prevent Andrew from going to the police, Joe pushed him overboard on a yacht. By extension, this led to the murders of Maya’s sister Claire and yacht captain Tommy Dark as Joe desperately tried to hide the truth of Theo’s death and the drug scandal at Lambur Pharma (a pharmaceutical company belonging to the Burketts).
