Ever since Al Mazrah was revealed as Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0‘s flagship map, fans have been dissatisfied. Here at Downtime Bros, we have been very critical of it since the beginning. Not only did it play host to the underwhelming launch of Warzone‘s second iteration, but it lacked variety and was both visually and mechanically frustrating. Thankfully, a new Call of Duty: Warzone map has been unveiled in the form of a single image.
The new map has been long-rumoured. It is apparently scheduled to launch in December following the November release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Previous reports have claimed that it will be called “Las Almas”, although this is unconfirmed.
Call of Duty fans may recognise Las Almas as the fictional Mexican city featured in Modern Warfare II. In CoD‘s fictionalised version of Mexico, Las Almas is a mountainous region that sits on the US/Mexico border next to Texas.
While exact details of the new map are scarce, it appears it may have more in common with Verdansk than a Mexican city. We know this because Activision posted to X (formerly Twitter) on 1 October hyping the Call of Duty: Next event, currently scheduled for 5 October. The post contained a teaser image for the map, which showed an area resembling Verdansk’s Port.

In the image of the new Warzone map (which you can see below), there are four large cranes running alongside a river. Countless shipping containers are also visible and a city area similar to Verdansk’s Downtown can be seen in the distance.
The name of the map and its setting are unknown. However, Activision has confirmed the Call of Duty: Next event will feature the “new map premiere”, showcase “live gameplay”, and include a “game features deep dive” with Raven Software.
The prospect of Warzone‘s new flagship map taking some inspiration from Verdansk is enticing. After all, we believe neither Caldera nor Al Mazrah measured up to the OG.
In particular, Al Mazrah is a rather bland map that has been rightly criticised for its dull desert environments and overall lack of innovation. With that being said, some believe this teaser image may be hinting at a remake of the Verdansk map. Obviously, that wouldn’t be a giant leap forward for the series – instead, it would be yet more reliance on the past.
Whatever Activision has up its sleeve, we are excited to see what’s store for Warzone at Call of Duty: Next.
