This Final Fantasy XVI guide explains what a Wind Shard does and how to get one.

Final Fantasy XVI tells the story of Clive Rosfield, who sets out on a quest for revenge in the world of Valisthea. When his brother Joshua is killed by a mysterious Eikon — magical creatures that possess human hosts called Dominants — Clive is determined to avenge him.

This sixteenth instalment in the Final Fantasy series has been praised by both critics and fans. However, it has faced some criticism thanks to frustrating performance issues.

As with many RPGs, crafting is a huge part of Final Fantasy XVI. The game features many basic materials for crafting, but, of course, players can use rarer materials to craft more valuable items.

An early example of this is the Wind Shard. If you’ve got one, you probably want to know what it does. And if you don’t have one, you need to know how to get it.

How to get a Wind Shard in Final Fantasy XVI

You receive a Wind Shard after defeating Garuda. It is one of the spoils you get following the battle. There is only one in the game.

It is “The power of the Eikon Garuda made manifest” according to its in-game description. It is also noted that it can be used for crafting, however exactly what it can be used to craft isn’t specifically explained.

What does the Wind Shard do in Final Fantasy XVI

This is what the Wind Shard does in Final Fantasy XVI:

The Wind Shard can be used to craft the Stormcry sword.

Use it to craft Stormcry.

It has 135 Attack and 135 Stagger, so will likely be the most powerful weapon you can acquire at this point in the game.

To craft the sword, go to Cid’s Hideaway and visit The Black Hammer. Stormcry should be listed under “Craftable Items”.
