Final Fantasy XVI: The Angel of Death location and how to defeat it

This Final Fantasy XVI guide provides the location of The Angel of Death (Aruna) notorious mark and explains how to defeat it.

The initial 10-15 hours of Final Fantasy XVI present a predominantly linear experience, offering little motivation to explore the vast world of the game.

Primarily, the narrative revolves around the main storyline and Clive Rosfield’s quest for revenge. Determined to avenge his brother Joshua, who fell victim to a mysterious Eikon (magical creatures that possesses human hosts known as Dominants), Clive becomes singularly focused.

However, following a pivotal moment in FF16‘s plot (which I won’t divulge to preserve the surprise), the game gradually presents more enticing reasons to venture into Valisthea and unveil its hidden mysteries.

Although the side quests within the game may not be revolutionary, players are certain to find enjoyment in the hunt board.

The hunt board can be accessed at the Hideaway, where you can interact with Nektar the Moogle to peruse a roster of perilous creatures called “Notorious Marks” that must be located and defeated.

These marks are categorised according to their strength and difficulty, such as C-rank, B-rank, and so forth, providing an indication of their level of challenge.

In return for successfully vanquishing a notorious mark, players will be rewarded with Gil and Renown, as well as additional spoils obtained after the battle.

One of the initial hunts available to players is The Angel of Death (Aruna), which is a C-rank notorious mark. It is a winged harpy creature which is apparently hiding amongst the trees in Claireview, Sanbreque. But its exact location is a mystery and you must find it for yourself. So, where is it?

The Angel of Death is located in the southwest corner of Claireview. It can be found floating around near some trees there. Its exact location is shown in the image below:

The easiest way to reach The Angel of Death is to fast travel to Lostwing and then to the Northreach obelisk. You will be able to quickly run to Claireview from here to find the notorious mark you’re hunting.

How to defeat The Angel of Death in FF16

The Angel of Death is one of the easier notorious marks to defeat in Final Fantasy XVI and shouldn’t present much of a challenge.

It uses a series of kick and wing attacks, as well as magical wind moves. With that being said, your primary tactic should be to rapidly dodge and keep moving. When you spot an opening, utilise your fire and wind abilities to deal maximum damage.

This should make the fight quite straightforward. Once you have defeated Aruna, you will receive 7,750 Gil and 10 Renown. As part of the post-fight spoils, you will also receive one Clouded Eye which can be used for crafting.
