An unknown downloadable content (DLC) package for Elden Ring has been added to the game’s files on PC. According to SteamDB, the DLC package was added five days ago but there is no information explaining what it includes.
A new DLC package appearing in the game’s files raises the prospect that Elden Ring‘s long-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree expansion may be released soon. It was announced in February 2023, however Elden Ring developer FromSoftware has shared few details about it since.
The change was first spotted by Elden Ring YouTuber Ziostorm, who wrote “A new Elden Ring DLC package has just been added to Elden Ring within the files for the first time since launch.” They continued “I’m not saying it’s 100% Shadow of the Erdtree but… There’s a pretty good chance it is.”
Naturally, fans were quick to discuss the unexpected appearance of the package. In response to Ziostorm’s tweet, one fan commented “I’m gonna [believe] it when i see it, trying to predict elden ring stuff is impossible.”
Fans are now wondering what this means for Shadow of the Erdtree’s release date. One commenter suggested “They are definitely going to drop it on the anniversary. We’ll probably see a trailer at the end of the month.” Another speculated that FromSoftware may be planning to surprise players with the DLC’s release. “Whenever it is, I’m pretty convinced that the expansion will be a shadow drop. FromSoft fully embracing its absolutely random nature”, they said.
While the reason for the DLC package being added is unclear, there is a realistic possibility that it is related to Shadow of the Erdtree. After all, no other downloadable content has been announced for the game and it has been over 15 months since the last DLC pack was added.
With that being said, fans can probably start to prepare for the imminent arrival of Shadow of the Erdtree. Here’s hoping that FromSoftware are kind enough to treat us to a trailer soon.
