During the Xbox Games Showcase on 9 June, Konami showed off a gameplay trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and fans are now more excited than ever to revisit Hideo Kojima’s masterpiece revamped for modern hardware.
This excitement has lead to many fans (myself included) rewatching the trailer multiple times. During the preview, we got a clear look at Naked Snake, Major Zero, Paramedic, and, of course, The Boss, who was revealed at its conclusion.
While Konami are taking their time to reveal characters as a way of building anticipation for the game’s release later this year, eagle-eyed fans caught a glimpse of Ocelot – one of Metal Gear Solid‘s most important characters – in the background of the trailer.
During the trailer, we see Snake battle the Ocelot Unit on his mission to rescue Sokolov, a scientist that is being held captive by Soviet rebels. Pausing the trailer at just the right moment reveals Ocelot lying on his back as Snake demonstrates his CQC skills.
Those who played the original game on PS2 will remember that this is when Snake encounters Ocelot for the first time in what has become one of the most memorable scenes in the entire series.
While Ocelot’s appearance in the trailer is brief, we can see that Konami has been faithful to his original look – complete with short blonde hair and chiseled cheek bones.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is scheduled to release later this year. A post from GameStop indicated that it would launch exactly 20-years after the original on 17 November. However, the retailer has since stated that this release date was “incorrect”.
