We’re just as surprised as you are! Dying Light developer Techland have confirmed their 2015 parkour/survival horror mash-up is getting a next-gen update. Graphical and performance updates for mega-hits like GTA V, Skyrim and The Witcher 3 (and hopefully one day Red Dead Redemption 2) are nothing new. But few would expect a six-year-old game to receive an upgrade mere months away from the release of its sequel. With that being said, a Dying Light 4K 60fps patch is on the way for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. And it’ll undoubtedly get fans in the mood for Dying Light 2 Stay Human. Here’s what we know about it…

Is the Dying Light PS5 upgrade real?

YES. A Dying Light PS5 update is coming. Techland said as much on Twitter. A curious Twitter user tweeted Techland asking them to update the original Dying Light for new consoles. And, surprisingly, the developer responded by confirming they’re working on a patch for the game that will bring 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. So, we have it in writing. The Dying Light next-gen update is real.

Dying Light 4K 60fps release date

We know it’s on the way, but when can we expect it to arrive? When is Dying Light PS5 update coming out? We don’t know yet because Techland haven’t said – but that doesn’t stop us from taking an educated guess. Dying Light 2 Stay Human release date is February 2022. And it’s obvious that Techland will want to build excitement for that game. So, what better way to do it than by upgrading the original and encouraging players to revisit it?

The first Dying Light was a big success for Techland. It managed to break survival-horror game records and amassed a significant player base. Fans of the game have been desperate for its sequel for years. And many will be looking for a good excuse to pick it back up again while they wait for Dying Light 2. With all that in mind – and Techland’s promise of “more details coming in the future” – it’s likely that Dying Light 4K 60fps upgrade will arrive before February 2022. The game is currently stuck in last-gen purgatory. That means players have to make do with 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second. But allowing players to experience Dying Light in its best possible form in the last few months before the sequel’s release makes perfect sense.
