Call of Duty: Vanguard is here and fans are getting stuck in. The consensus among the community is that Vanguard is a solid entry in the series. And we’re having lots of fun with it so far. We’re also excited to see how the new Pacific Caldera map changes Warzone over the coming months. If you’re currently undecided about buying the game and wondering if it’ll be good to play with a roommate, friend, partner or sibling, you might be asking: “does Call of Duty: Vanguard have split screen?”

The often neglected feature is still popular with gamers looking for some couch co-op fun. And its inclusion in the Call of Duty series hasn’t been consistent. However, lots of people have fond memories of sitting down with a pal and blasting through levels and enemies together. But as split screen is of minimal priority to developers these days, it’s important to manage your expectations of any co-op offering in CoD. So, is Call of Duty: Vanguard split screen?

Is Call of Duty: Vanguard campaign split screen?

Call of Duty: Vanguard‘s campaign does not feature split screen. It is a single player campaign. That means you’ll have to take it in turns if you and a friend are both hoping to play it.

CoD: Vanguard Zombies co-op

The fan-favourite Zombies mode makes its return in Vanguard. And this is the mode that split screen makes the most sense for. With that in mind, is Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies split screen? No. Zombies mode in Vanguard doesn’t include split screen support, so you’ll have to play it online with your friends instead. That’s probably disappointing to hear. However, Zombies isn’t very good this year so maybe you wouldn’t want to play much of it anyway.

CoD: Vanguard Multiplayer split screen

With both Campaign and Zombies missing out on split screen in Vanguard, that leaves us with one mode. And it’s the one you’ll likely be spending the most time with – Multiplayer. Does CoD: Vanguard multiplayer have split screen? YES – it does. Finally, something you can play on your couch with someone else! But how do you do it?

How to play CoD: Vanguard Multiplayer split screen

This bit is really straightforward and will be familiar to anyone who did it in other recent CoD games. To play split screen in Vanguard multiplayer, simply turn on a second controller and get the new player to sign into their account. Please note – split screen is only available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. That means if you’re wondering does Call of Duty: Vanguard have split screen on PC, the answer is no. Additionally, Xbox Live and PSN accounts are required to play online and those accounts must have Xbox Live Gold or PS Plus membership. Otherwise you will be restricted to local multiplayer only.

If you followed the steps outlined above correctly, player two will be able to press X or A (depending on your console of choice) to join the multiplayer lobby. Look in the top-right corner of the screen for a “Player 2 press X/A to join split screen” notification. From there, whoever set the lobby up can start the matchmaking process. Have fun!
