Later this month, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is hitting shelves – but a Death Stranding sequel appears to be on the way, too.

Death Stranding Sequel In The Works

Norman Reedus, of The Walking Dead fame, who portrays Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding, has reportedly confirmed a sequel is under development. IGN Brasil reports that Reedus said negotiations were underway in an interview with Brazilian publication AdoroCinema

“I think we’re doing a second Death Stranding,” Norman Reedus is quoted as saying. “[The game] is in negotiations right now. So yay!”

While it sounds pretty clear cut, there’s a couple of things to be cautious of. Firstly, the interview is translated from Portuguese, so the wording may not be entirely accurate. And, secondly, it could be that Reedus was referring to the upcoming PS5 port for the original Death Stranding rather than Death Stranding 2.

Death Stranding director, Hideo Kojima, hasn’t addressed Reedus’ comments regarding a potential sequel.

When Is Death Stranding 2 Coming Out?

No release date for Death Stranding 2 has been provided.

Even though Norman Reedus seemed to confirm a Death Stranding sequel is in the works, it hasn’t been formally announced. If it is only at the negotiation stage, it’s likely to be at least a couple of years away.

What will it be about?

The original Death Stranding introduced us to a huge world and a diverse array of characters. Even though the ending seemed to wrap things up nicely, there’s undoubtedly more that could be done with the game’s ambitious setting. And it seems likely we’ll be seeing more of Sam Bridges.

Death Stranding launched to considerable anticipation back in 2019. But it was divisive amongst gamers. Some loved it and some hated it. While I fell into the first camp, I would agree there’s room for improvement. A Death Stranding sequel would be the perfect opportunity to address some of the criticisms of the first game while building on what it did well.
