Dead Space is a survival horror masterpiece. To fans of the genre, that’s an indisputable fact. And while the series eventually died a quiet death in 2013, it has been resurrected by EA Motive. But fans want to know exactly how true to the original the new remake will be. So, will the Dead Space remake feature Impossible difficulty mode?

It may seem a little obscure that fans are lusting after a difficulty mode. But it’s important to remember that Impossible mode provided players back in 2008 with a reason to play the campaign all over again.

Impossible was the highest level of difficulty in the original Dead Space, after Easy, Normal, and Hard. It could be unlocked by completing the game once on any difficulty.

It significantly upped the challenge for players wanting to push themselves. Its key changes included scarcer item and credit drops, and more dangerous Necromorphs capable of frequently dodging your shots.

Players hoping to complete an Impossible playthrough were encouraged to be extremely cautious while playing and to plan ahead.

Of course, the whole point of Impossible mode was for it to ramp up the anxiety and fear thanks to minimal supplies, health, and deadlier enemies.

Naturally, fans of the original game will be wondering if this enhanced difficulty mode will return. Is Impossible mode in the Dead Space remake? Let’s get into it…

Is Impossible Mode in Dead Space Remake?

We already know the Dead Space remake will feature New Game Plus. We also know that New Game Plus will include a Level 6 Advanced Suit, new Phantom Variant Necromorphs, and a secret ending.

While that all sounds exciting, some players just want to make things that bit more gripping by turning the difficulty up.

Thankfully, for fans of the original and anyone looking for a more intense challenge, we’ve got good news.

Dead Space remake does have Impossible mode. The game’s trophy/achievement list revealed Impossible mode’s inclusion. You no longer need to unlock Impossible mode – it can be selected on your first playthrough.

Completing Dead Space on Impossible difficulty will unlock the “Untouchable” trophy/achievement. Players will also unlock the Burnished Suit and Hand Cannon for use in New Game Plus.

The mode is slightly different in the remake. You will only have one save slot and auto-save is disabled. If you die, you lose your Impossible save.
