It’s been more than eight years since Dead Island 2 was first announced. And after being pushed back numerous times, Dead Island 2 has been delayed once more.

Using the game’s official Twitter account, developer Dambuster Studios and publisher Deep Silver issued a joint statement confirming its delay.

“We have some important news to share, so let’s rip that band aid off straight away”, the statement began. “We are delaying Dead Island 2“.

This update will surely be disappointing for fans of the series, which hasn’t received a new instalment since 2013’s Dead Island: Riptide.

Dead Island 2‘s development has been turbulent to say the least. The game was first in the hands of Yager Development and due for release in 2015.

It was later passed to Sumo Digital before being taken over by Dambuster Studios in 2019. Dead Island 2‘s 3rd February 2023 release date was finally confirmed in a trailer revealed at gamescom 2022.

However, fans will now get their hands on the long-awaited zombie sequel 12 weeks later than expected to allow Dambuster Studios more development time.

Dead Island 2 Delayed: New Release Date

With the announcement of Dead Island 2 being delayed again, fans will no doubt be eager to know when they can finally play it.

In the official statement, Dead Island 2‘s new release date was confirmed as 28th April 2023. The full statement is below:

“We have some important news to share, so let’s rip that band aid off straight away. We are delaying Dead Island 2 – the new release date will be April 28th 2023.

The irony of delaying Dead Island 2 is not lost on us, and we are as disappointed as you undoubtedly are. The delay is just 12 short weeks and development is on the final straight now; we’re going to take the time we need to make sure we can launch a game we’re proud to launch. For those of you who’ve been waiting for years, thank you for hanging in there with us.

In the meantime, we will be releasing an exciting new trailer and gameplay at the Dead Island 2 showcase which will premiere on December 6th on our Twitch and YouTube channels as well as on the Dead Island website.”

Players can expect to “Explore iconic, gore-drenched Los Angeles. Meet larger-than-life characters. Slay countless foes in exquisitely bloody detail. And evolve to become the ultimate Zombie Slayer!”
